FOR SALE:

Yes, the car is officially for sale – money, looking to get back into motorcycles, lack of a place to keep it indoors (It has not spent a winter outside since being painted), and wanting to someday purchase a house have me torn between hanging on to it, and selling it. Please understand I have many, MANY hours of work into this car and will NOT sell this car to a kid. I do not want to feel partially responsible for a kid killing themselves or possibly someone else in or with it. It is NOT a car that should be driven in the rain. I have daily commuted to work with it on decent days with great reliability and fun (25 miles each way), and have even gotten caught out in the rain with it. But with the tires on the back (drag radials) and the power this car has, it is not for the faint of heart in the rain. It gets around 14mpg around town, and I’ve gotten as many as 24mpg on the highway. I usually average around 17mpg.

The asking price is $8500. You can make me an offer, but keep in mind this car has over 25k in it, and is absolutely one of the nicest 3rdgen firebirds you will see on the road today.

I have to say this even though it goes without saying, this car is sold AS IS – I will be PERFECTLY willing to give you my contact information and help you out with any questions or problems you may have with it after the purchase, but once sold, I will assume no expense.

About the car:

This car has approximately 86,000 original miles on it. I am the 2nd owner on the car, and still drive it on a daily basis. It is registered and insured. It will go through emissions, although with any car of this likeness, it is not easy.

This car has some rather rare parts in it. One of these parts is the Dana 44 Rear end. This rear is much stronger than the 10 bolts, and has readily available internals. I have upgraded the rear brakes to the LS1 Rears - 12" Rear disk...

I have several spare parts, all paperwork, including the original window sticker, owner’s manual, full factory service manuals and all the original spare tire parts and such. Functionally, this car functions like stock – the AC still works, all interior controls work, rear defog has NO lines out, all dash and exterior lights work, and the headlight motors have been rebuilt with new gears. The interior is in good shape. No cracks in the dash pad. I've been looking for the shift plate as this is the only piece in the interior that is in marginal shape.

Horsepower: I do NOT have a current dyno - the numbers below were from before the 1.6 rockers, underdrive pullies, and new distributor (old one was dropping 6* of timing from 4500rpm up) Last time it was dyno’d it put 353hp/340trq to the wheels. As I mentioned, quite a few small changes have taken place since then, and quite frankly the car is a lot faster. I may dyno it this spring. My guess is ~380hp to the wheels. For what it’s worth, the car out runs a friends SC’d mustang that puts 400/400 to the wheels by about a half a car in the ¼ mile and starts running away over 120mph. This car is quick andeasily touches 160mph and will keep going (thank you T-56). Before the 6-speed and engine tweaks, it ran a 12.06 @ 114.6 mph. Don’t ask for a slip, it’s long faded away since the last time it saw the track was over 3 years ago.

When I built this car up, my intention was to create as best of a compromise between street, and track (drag and twisties) I think I hit it about on the nose and this car is PLENTY of fun at the local autocross. www.cartct.com – look at the pictures for the 4/27/08 event. It’s not competitive in it’s class since I do not have competiton tires on it for autocross, but it is a fun car to drive through the course and it handles great.

In the pictures, two things have changed: New chrome valve covers, and the exhaust now has 4” dumps under the rear bumper instead of the quad tips. I will hopefully updating the pictures this spring 2009.
